Hispanic Engineers & Scientists (HES)

Mission
The Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES) of the University of California, Berkeley, are determined to increase the number of culturally responsible engineers and scientists who succeed academically, lead professionally, and passionately contribute to society.

History
HES is a student organization established in 1974 bringing together all Latino student engineers and scientists to promote the advancement of education among underrepresented minority students and to create a support system within Berkeley academia. HES is open to all students of the Berkeley campus who share our devotion to the recruitment and retention of Latino students into higher education. Throughout the year HES engages in activities that help both members in our organization and people in our community. The unwavering dedication of our members has made our numerous outreach, recruitment, and retention programs continued successes (click here for list of events).

Effective May 2009 through April 2010, the HES executive board have sworn to uphold and preserve the current HES Constitution and to the best of his/her own abilities fulfill what is demanded of his/her position.


The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)

HES is affiliated as a student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

Mission

SHPE is the Source for Quality Hispanic Engineers and Technical Talent.

History
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
